Bursa Malaysia closes down in line with regional sentiment

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 30 — The benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) finished lower today, weighed down by selling activities in selected heavyweights and in line with most regional markets.

At 5pm, the index stood at 1,672.16, down 10.43 points or 0.62 per cent, after moving between 1,663.03 and 1,675.41 through the day.

Among heavyweights, Public Bank rose 12 sen to RM18.38, Petronas Chemicals gained 2 sen to RM6.74, Maybank fell 12 sen to RM8.32, TNB lost 24 sen to 13.36 and Axiata fell 1 sen to RM6.13.

Of the actives, Nova MSC was flat at 12.5 sen, Tek Seng Holdings shed 2 sen to 76 sen, OldTown slid 4 sen to RM1.37 and Kossan Rubber slid 2 sen to RM8.

Market breadth was negative as decliners thumped gainers 679 to 270 while 281 counters were unchanged, 577 untraded and 46 others suspended.

Volume increased to 2.51 billion shares worth RM3.79 billion from 2.40 billion shares worth RM2.06 billion last Friday.

Regionally, Japan’s Nikkei 225 eased 0.69 per cent to 19,747.47, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng trimmed 0.33 per cent to 21,996.42 and Singapore’s Straits Times gained 0.43 per cent to 2,871.47.

On the scoreboard, the FBM Emas Index declined 55.21 points to 11,625.97, the FBMT100 Index fell 53.98 points to 11,312.24, and the FBM Emas Shariah Index shed 89.42 points to 12,506.87.

The FBM Ace slid 132.93 points to 6,543.39, the FBM 70 inched down 0.49 point to 12,877.74 and the Plantation Index depreciated 2.99 points to settle at 7,596.7.

Sector-wise, the Industrial Index eased 9.37 points to 3,287.28 and the Finance Index dipped 33.8 points to 14,100.82.

Main Market volume increased to 1.57 billion units worth RM3.6 billion from 1.33 billion units worth RM1.80 billion.

Turnover on the ACE Market declined to 769.54 million shares valued at RM160.47 million from 862.95 million shares valued at RM227.87 million last Friday. Warrants fell to 165.38 million units worth RM24.81 million from 210.54 million units worth RM30.80 million.

Consumer products accounted for 132.96 million shares traded on the Main Market, industrial products (311.32 million), construction (54.84 million), trade and services (743.87 million), technology (36.60 million), infrastructure (25.82 million), SPAC (9.87 million), finance (108.17 million), hotels (807,100), properties (109.62 million), plantations (32.55 million), mining (20,000), REITs (5.95 million) and closed/fund (1,000). — Bernama
